The end of the Cold War marked the beginning of the relationship between Fort Worth and Budapest, Hungary, when Fort Worth’s then-mayor Bob Bolen received the mayor of Budapest’s request to partner as Sister Cities. As the largest city and capital of Hungary, Budapest serves as the country’s principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial and transportation center, and is considered an important hub in Central Europe. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, its World Heritage Sites include the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue and the Millennium Underground Railway, the first on the European continent.
