Business and Professional Programs
Redefining the idea of “just business.”
A just and more stable world requires engagement from every sector of life – including business. And the more we recognize the connection between peace and prosperity, the more we can appreciate the value of culturally competent business practices – here and abroad.
Fort Worth Sister Cities International helps businesses view their international opportunities through this lens by providing:
- Culturally focused protocol training
- Professional development and education regarding best practices in international relations
- Custom international exchanges based on needs and interests of client
- International relations resources to businesses, nonprofits and educational entities
- Facilitation of international partner relationships
- Custom consultations on identified topics to promote relationship development (the first step to a successful business venture)
- Global education programs for organizations’ teams and customers
To accomplish this, we partner with:
- Municipal entities
- International businesses
- Higher learning institutions
- Our FWSCI network
- State and federal government agencies
- Non-governmental organizations
Economic development is important criteria for the selection of our sister cities. The selection of our Chinese sister city was made with this in mind and resulted in several representatives from Fort Worth participating in an economic forum in Nanjing, China. This forum also provided networking and opportunities that have paved the way for the development of future business links.
Other examples of our business and professional programs include:
- A successful trade mission to Toluca, Mexico, in 2006
- The formation of the Young Professionals Business Mentorship Program, which was started in 2012 between Fort Worth and Nagaoka, Japan, to provide participants an opportunity to learn how to work in an international environment
- A customized experience for Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. (TX Whiskey) and Best Maid Pickles in 2018 that provided these businesses the opportunity to showcase their products to prospective buyers in Japan

“The Open World Program taught us to think carefully about how our historical, cultural and political context influences what we do and how we do it. These kinds of programs make a difference locally and internationally.” – Fernando Costa, Fort Worth Assistant City Manager
