Hiroko Tanaka is from Yokohama-city, Kanagawa, Japan and will be featuring her latest works at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Tanaka is an executive committee member of the Ohgenkai Art League and a member of the Japanese Artist Association.
When she was a teenager, she was chosen to be a model for the Girl Scouts Friendship statue in Yokohama along with Nagaoka Chair and Fort Worthian Libby Watson. Half a century later, she has had a reunion with Libby and has visited Fort Worth, Texas twice. She created this new series of paintings titled “Five V” as an expression of how she was moved by the bond of friendship. Five main women are represented throughout the paintings, each with her own color and key word. Their characters and colors, their passage through the past, the present, and the future creates a tapestry of the humor, closeness, and elegance that is their friendship with one another.
