Nagaoka, Japan - Signed 1987

Nagaoka's strong support of the Sister Cities concept enables this to be Fort Worth's most active program with over 200 youth and adults exchanging each year for programs in sports, culture and education. For over 12 years, Shinichi Hara, the "Safeway" of Nagaoka, has sponsored over $1 million in scholarships both in Nagaoka and Fort Worth for students and teachers to participate in an annual two-week educational exchange. Nagaoka, fireworks capitol of Japan, sent a spectacular fireworks gift for Fort Worth's celebration as an All America City. Developed exchanges include fire, rescue and Red Cross training, Rotary and Soroptimists civic programs, cowboys and culture programs for tourism, and was recognized internationally for their creative participation in the 100-day Sun and Star Festival Parade and the Sister Cities International celebration.
